About this session
Export compliance dovetails with logistics in that both are required to get items from the United States to international destinations. Come learn what your colleagues dealing with physical shipments have to understand to make those shipments happen. From carriers vs. freight forwarders, incoterms, dangerous goods compliance, air vs. ground vs. ocean, typical pricing and packaging types to how hub-and-spoke networks function, you’ll leave this presentation with enough information to be able to commiserate with logistics/shipping personnel and maybe improve your ability to support export compliance shipments.
Speaker(s)
Matt Beck
An import/export compliance veteran, Matt has been in mostly import/export compliance management roles since 2007, with additional responsibilities such as global logistics, dangerous goods compliance, anti-corruption & conflict of interest and business partner onboarding compliance sporadically thrown in. Having worked in various industries including semiconductor, life sciences, medical device, test & measurement, renewable energy, electronic components resale and even at a freight forwarder and having become a licensed U.S. customs broker, Matt has a lot of experience to share. A relative newcomer to academia, having only been with the Applied Research Laboratories, The University of Texas at Austin for the past two years, Matt has been thrilled to work with the fundamental research exclusion and decorate his office like a dorm room but has been bemused by the lack of attention paid to import compliance and logistics by so many academic institutions. Matt spends much of his spare time bike riding, reading, gardening, playing volleyball and updating his personal website of import/export compliance thoughts and humor: www.ixcompliancemanager.com.
