About this session
This presentation examines the application of U.S. trade controls and biosecurity requirements to life sciences research, including the ITAR, EAR, and OFAC sanctions, with a focus on controlled biological materials, laboratory equipment, technology, fundamental research, licensing, and institutional compliance. It also explores how export compliance intersects with biorisk management, biosafety, dangerous-goods shipping, and other institutional research oversight functions. Actual case studies involving illicit transport of biological materials will highlight real-world risks and compliance considerations for all parties involved in life sciences research.
