As the Systemwide Manager of Research Security and Export Controls at the University of California (UC), Garrett is responsible for coordinating and modeling an integrated risk-based export compliance program across the UC system in alignment with university policy and U.S. regulations. With over 20 years of experience supporting research and compliance within academia at both the UC San Diego campus and Office of the President, he now focuses on designing best practices for export control and research security programs, developing compliance training, and managing the systemwide office's industrial security program. He received his bachelor's degree in literature and composition from Arizona State University.
